Why do you need to complete these forms?
If you are randomly selected by the Department of Education for a process called verification, you will be required to complete additional forms and provide additional documentation. Thirty percent of all FAFSA applicants are randomly selected to verify that the data reported on the FAFSA is accurate. Our office verifies the information according to the Department of Education's regulations and makes any necessary corrections to your FAFSA. If you are selected for verification, our office will send you a letter requesting you complete and return the verification forms to our office.
When do I have to submit my forms?
The processing of all financial aid takes 4-6 weeks. Once our office receives your completed forms, we begin processing your financial aid. In order for financial aid to be processed and ready for the first disbursement, complete documentation must be received by July 15th for the fall semester, and November 15th for the spring semester. Processing will continue on a first come first serve basis thereafter, but you must be prepared to pay upfront for tuition and fees as well books and supplies.
What happens after I submit my forms?
Once your file is completed through the verification process, the Financial Aid Office will notify you by mail of your award. An updated SAR (Student Aid Report) will be e-mailed to you within 3-5 business days after any changes have been made to your FAFSA as a result of verification.
You may also be required to provide Parent/Student Tax Information
In order to complete tax verification the easiest way is to use the IRS Data Retreival Tool that is part of the FAFSA on the web. Log into your FAFSA record, select "Make FAFSA Corrections" and navigate to the Financial Information section of the form. From there, follow the instructions to determine if you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retreival Tool to transfer 2015 IRS income tax information into your FAFSA. It takes up to two weeks for informatin to become available after you have electronically filed your taes or eight weeks for paper filers. If you are unable or chose not to use the IRS Data Retreival Tool you will be required to submit a 2016 tax transript. You can request the tax transcript online at www.irs.gov or by calling 1-800-908-9946. You must complete this process for you and your parents.
