2.01.002.002 - Sexual Violence Awareness Education

Approved: 2/9/2012
Approved By: President's Staff
Category: 2 - GENERAL INSTITUTION
Section: 01 - GENERAL
Policy: 002 - Civility

The CCBC campus community has a stake in preventing sexual violence and all members have a valuable role to play. With our commitment to a primary prevention approach to curtail sexual violence, we intend to help create environments that promote respect, equality, civility, and healthy relationships.  Ultimately, we strive to maintain a campus environment where students are safe and learning successfully.

CCBC students will have access to information related to sexual violence awareness.  This educational information complies with Article XX-G of Pennsylvania H.B. 101 of 2009, an omnibus education bill, which became law on November 17, 2010, and took effect February 25, 2011.

The College will offer programs for sexual violence awareness education that include but are not limited to:

  1. discussion of sexual violence
  2. discussion of consent, including an explanation that the victim is not at fault
  3. discussion of drug and alcohol-facilitated sexual violence
  4. information relating to risk education and personal protection
  5. information on where and how to get assistance, including the importance of medical treatment and evidence collection, and how to report sexual violence to campus authorities and local law enforcement
  6. information on the possibility of pregnancy and transmission of sexual diseases
  7. introduction of the campus police or security, local law enforcement, campus health center, women’s center, rape crisis center, counseling and student affairs
  8. protection of dignity through discretion
  9. protection of confidentiality for victims of sexual assault

The Office of the Vice President for Learning and Student Success will coordinate overall development of the Sexual Violence Awareness Education program and ensure its implementation, including programming throughout the year for new students and required reporting to the Department of Education.
