6.05.001.001 - Bereavement Leave

Employees who wish to take time off due to the death of an immediate family member should notify their supervisor immediately.

Paid bereavement leave will be provided to eligible employees in the following classification(s):

  • Regular full-time employees

Bereavement pay is calculated based on the base pay rate at the time of absence and will not include any special forms of compensation, such as incentives, commissions, bonuses, or shift differentials.

Bereavement leave will normally be granted unless there are unusual business needs or staffing requirements. Employees may, with their supervisors' approval, use any available paid leave for additional time off as necessary.

CCBC defines "immediate family" as the employee's spouse, parent, child, or sibling. In these cases, the employee will be granted up to four (4) working days. This includes “step” relatives.

CCBC will grant up to two (2) working days for the death of grandparents, grandchildren, son or daughter-in-law, mother or father-in-law. This includes “step” relatives. Also, any near relative who resides in the same household with the employee or any person with whom the employee has made his/her home.

Paid time off for bereavement leave will not be counted as hours worked for the purposes of determining overtime.
