Policy: 001 - Hiring and Equal Employment Opportunity

In its policy on Hiring and Equal Employment Opportunity, the Board of Trustees directs the development of procedures addressing the requirements for physical exams, background checks, credit checks, drug testing, and personality inventory assessments.  In implementation of this policy, the following will be required of the successful applicant prior to the initiation of work:

Physical Examinations

Physical examinations will be required of all new full-time hires for all positions within the College.  Individuals recommended for part-time employment in the areas of Maintenance, Physical Plant, Bookstore, Computer Services, and other areas deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources will also be required to complete a physical exam.

The examination is to address the general physical wellbeing of the applicant, to identify any impediments to the individual’s ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position being sought, and to identify any accommodations that may be required to enable the individual to perform successfully in the position.  The exam will be completed through a physician identified by the College at College expense.

Criminal Background Checks

Criminal background checks will be required of all new full-time hires for all positions within the College.  Individuals recommended for part-time employment in Maintenance, Physical Plant, Book Store, Computer Services, Business Office and other areas deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources will also be required to undergo a criminal background check.  The expenses for the background check will be covered by the applicant.

Drug Testing

Drug testing will be required for all new full-time hires for all positions within the College.  Individuals recommended for part-time employment in Maintenance, Physical Plant, and other areas deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources will also be required to complete drug testing.  The testing will be conducted through an appropriate laboratory identified by the College with the expense borne by the College.

Personality Profile Assessment

Applicants selected for interview for full-time positions within the College will be required to complete a personality profile assessment using an instrument selected by the College.  This testing will also be required of interviewees for part-time positions as identified by the Director of Human Resources.  The assessment will be administered and scored within the Department of Human Resources, and completion of this assessment will be required of the finalists selected for interviews.  Results of the assessment will not be made available to screening committees and/or interview committees but will be shared with appropriate supervisory personnel and the President.  The expenses associated with this assessment will be borne by the College.

Credit Checks

Credit checks will be required for all senior level management positions within the College.  The credit check will be completed through the Department of Human Resources.  Results of the credit check will not be made available to screening/interview committees but will be shared with appropriate supervisory personnel and the President.  The expenses associated with the credit check will be borne by the College.

Operational procedures for implementation of these requirements will be developed and published by the Department of Human Resources.
