6.02.001.001 - Personal Appearance
Employees contribute to the culture and reputation of CCBC in the way they present themselves. A professional appearance is essential to a favorable impression with students and visitors. Good grooming and appropriate dress reflect employee pride and inspire confidence on the part of such persons.
It is the expectation that all employees of CCBC will at all times present a professional, businesslike image to clients, visitors, students and the public.
Each manager is responsible for the personal appearance of their department and their employees. The manager is expected to assure that all employees present an image that meets CCBC’s expectations as outlined in this procedure.
Human Resources will be the final arbiter in all cases of determining appropriate business attire. Employees who do not meet a professional standard may be sent home to change and non-exempt employees will not be paid for that time off. A basic essential of appropriate dress includes the need for clothing to be neat and clean. A reasonable standard of dress rules out any extreme in dress, accessory, fragrances or hair. It is impossible and undesirable to define an absolute code for dress and fragrances.
The Human Resources department at CCBC will apply a rule of reason on a case-by-case basis.
Management may make exceptions for special occasions. These must be approved by Human Resources. An employee unsure of what is appropriate should check with Human Resources.
