The Academic Council is created through the Office of the Vice President/Provost to ensure that administrative staff, faculty and students are provided with an opportunity for review and input in shaping the academic and student service procedures and guidelines of the College.  The role of the Academic Council is to be advisory and in making its recommendations, the Council is expected to retain a focus on efforts of the College to promote student retention, student success and persistence to graduation.

Among the expectations for the Academic Council are the following:

Composition

The Academic Council will be composed of one faculty representative from each instructional division of the College plus a 12 month faculty member, selected in a manner as prescribed in the Agreement between the College and the Society of the Faculty.  One student representative will be appointed by the Student Government Association, and the Council will have administrative representation appointed by the Vice President for Learning and Student Success to include four instructional administrators and one enrollment service administrator.  These representatives, collectively will serve as the voting members of the Academic Council.

The Vice President for Learning and Student Success will convene and preside over meetings of the Academic Council and will also have voting privileges.  The Vice President will have responsibility for compiling the agenda for Council meetings, keeping minutes of Council meeting and forwarding recommendations of the Council to the Office of the President for consideration.

Other members of the administrative staff may be invited to attend in an ex officio or advisory capacity to address specific topics under consideration by the Academic Council.  Individuals participating in this manner will not be considered voting members.
