It is the belief of the Board of Trustees that effective decisions result from knowledge and understanding. The Board further believes that trustees have an obligation to participate in education and training as a means of becoming more knowledgeable on the issues and challenges facing community colleges at the local, state and national level. Therefore, it is the desire of the Board to create and support the professional development of its individual members.
The President of the College is directed to include funds in the College’s annual operating budget to provide for Board Planning Retreats and to support trustee attendance at appropriate state, regional, and/or national conferences. In the interest of maximizing the funds available, all trustees should attempt to participate in at least one professional development activity annually. Individual trustees should limit their attendance at professional development activities conducted in out-of-state locations to not more than two per fiscal year, except where the trustee serves as an officer of the Board and/or holds office in a state, regional, or national association.
