4.03.002 - Athletics
The Board of Trustees recognizes the value that participation in an organized athletic program can add to the quality of a student educational experience. As part of its commitment to providing a quality educational experience, it is the desire of the Board to establish competitive athletic program opportunities for male and female athletes. The athletic programs should emphasize both educational and athletic success and should be structured to assist student athletes to know themselves better and to grow physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. In addition, the athletic program should enhance general life skills, knowledge, and abilities including physical fitness, self-confidence, leadership and teamwork.
It is expected that the College will provide opportunities within the resources it has available, for participation in a variety of athletic initiatives including intercollegiate athletics, club sports, and intramural athletics. Students should be supported in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching, and appropriate competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions.
The Board directs the President to develop procedures and requirement to create the opportunities delineated by this policy and to establish appropriate budgets for approval by the Board.
