Services to Students

Borrowing
Students may apply for a library card as soon as they register for classes.  Presentation of photo ID is required.  Library cards will be valid until the last day of the term for which the student is enrolled.  All checked out materials have to be returned by then.  Students who are enrolled for the following semester can have their library card renewed to the last day of the new term.  Patrons who have lost their library card can obtain a new one at the Customer Service desk for a $2.00 fee.

Reference and research assistance
Reference services are provided to assist patrons in making the most of the Library's resources.   The librarian can answer questions regarding the research process, library collections and services, Microsoft Office and Windows software and the internet.

The librarian is available for individual appointments with students for consultations about their research.  To contact the reference librarian, please call 724-480-3427 or email refdesk@ccbc.edu.

Technology
A wireless network is available in the Library and throughout campus for users who have their own computers.  In addition, twenty-four networked computers running Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 2010 softwareaccommodate users' needs for e-mail, Web access, word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database applications.  These computers are connected to network printerslocated behind the Customer Service desk.  Printouts are free for students who present their CCBC photo ID, but due to printer capacity limitations, no more than 50 pages should be printed per person per day.  Students who do not have CCBC photo ID may print for free at the Open Computer Lab located in the Science and Technology building, room 4114.

Seven additional computer terminals, located next to the reference desk, are dedicated to searching the Library's online catalog, B-VR-PAC.  One other terminal is attached to an optical scanner, which can be used for free to create image files (.jpg) and .pdf documents.  A black-and-white photocopy machine is located beyond the circulation desk; copies are 10 cents a page, and the machine provides change for bills up to $5.

The Library does not own a color printer or a fax machine.
