Overview

Opened in 1974 the Police Training Academy is located at the Community College of Beaver County in Center Township , Monaca, Pennsylvania . The academy was opened with the vision of providing training for police officers in Beaver and surrounding counties. The academy has fulfilled that mission and beyond. The academy is assisted in its mission by the Municipal Police Officers Education & Training Commission and is overseen by The Beaver County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Directors at The Community College of Beaver County.

The Police Academy is committed to training all persons aspiring to obtain the Act 120 required training to be certified as a police officer in Pennsylvania and to also provide Act 180 Mandatory–In-Service Training for all active duty police officers. This will continue to be the ongoing commitment of the Academy.

The Academy is housed at the CCBC Aviation Sciences Center in Chippewa Township. The state of the art Golden Dome Gymnasium facility is utilized for physical and defense tactics training. The facility houses a weight room and gymnasium facility that is also used as an indoor track and training facility as well as locker room area.

Located off campus the Academy uses the firearms training facilities at The Beaver Valley Rifle and Pistol Club located on Rt. 51 adjacent to Brady’s Run Park as well as the 911 Airbase Range in Independence Township. The range hosues a (20) point outdoor combat range as well as a (10) point indoor range, rifle range and trapshooting range. The range is used to serve all local police agencies as well as State and Federal Agencies.

The Academy also conducts Emergency Vehicle Operation Training involving vehicle operation under conditions representing those that cadets may encounter during everyday patrol as well as pursuit driving situations.

The Academy maintains a policy of availability to all police agencies in the immediate area to provide training in all areas of law enforcement. Classes and seminars are provided throughout the year for the continuing education of police officers. These classes and seminars are presented to enhance the professionalism, ethics and knowledge of officers to provide the communities they serve with the best police service available.

The Academy’s Act 120 Certification also provides its students with 35 credits towards obtaining an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice through the college.

The demands of the modern day law enforcement profession necessitate the training of people who are capable and prepared to meet the challenges facing today’s police officers.
