Medical Transcription

Certificate offered

Credits required: 30

The Medical Transcription program will prepare students to transcribe medical dictation with accuracy, clarity, and timeliness, applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct.  Students are given a background in medical terminology and human physiology with an emphasis on skill training in keyboarding, application software, and office procedures.  Students will be taught the grammar, punctuation, and medical terminology necessary for the important task of translating and transcribing the voice-recordings of doctors and physicians into permanent records.

The coursework provides course content that will prepare the student to take the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam (Word and Outlook), the globally recognized standard for desktop skills.

Graduates of the program can work as medical transcriptionists in hospitals, offices of physicians, medical and diagnostic laboratories; outpatient care and centers; and offices of physical, occupational, and speech therapists.
