In fact, people who are 85 or older are the fastest growing population in our society. It is estimated that by 2025, nearly one in five people will be over 65 years of age. This will increase the number of geriatric patients that nurses care for. Nurses need to be knowledgeable of the normal changes of the elderly vs. the medical complexities of this population in order to appropriately manage their care. This session will identify characteristics of normal aging of the body systems, describe the complexities of the geriatric population, discuss barriers to effective care, review pharmaceutical concerns and effective management, and examine care approaches for the geriatric patient. 2.0 CE Hours.
