Borrowing Books and Other Materials
Getting a Library Card
Application for a library card can be made at the Customer Service desk. A photo ID or other proof of residency or student status is required. Beaver County Library System cards issued at the public libraries are accepted at CCBC Library and vice-versa.
Books, audiobooks, videos and DVDs can be checked out for two weeks; they can be renewed once, provided no one has placed a "hold" on them - in other words, if no one is waiting for the item to be returned. If a book you need is checked out to another user, you may place your name on a waiting list by clicking the "Request" button that appears on the library catalog toolbar and entering your information. You will be notified by phone or email when the item is returned to the Library. Holds can also be placed on items that belong to Beaver County Library System libraries. Those items will be delivered to the library of your choice, usually within two business days.
*Remember to treat library materials with the utmost care!
Renewing checked out materials
You may view the list of items you have borrowed and renew your items online through B-VR-PAC (click here for directions). Phone renewals can also be made by calling the Customer Service desk at 724-480-3442. Voice mails and email messages cannot be accepted for this purpose.
Fines and fees
Items returned after the due date are subject to a fine of 20 cents per day per item, except for DVDs, which carry a $1.00 fine per day. Users who owe more than $5.00 in fines will have their library privileges suspended until payment is made. At the end of each semester, students who still have a balance will not have their grades released by the Registrar until all library dues are paid.
Instructional items are sometimes placed "on reserve" for use of students enrolled in a particular class. These materials are kept behind the Customer Service desk and circulate for a limited time, at the instructor's direction. In the case of materials limited to two hours of use, a 25 cent fine will be assessed for each hour a reserve item is overdue. Reserve materials are for use by registered students only, and on a first-come, first-served basis. Questions about reserve materials should be directed to Pat Smith, at (724)480-3408.
Books and videos located at Beaver County Library System public libraries can be requested directly through the online library catalog. They will usually arrive at CCBC Library within two business days.
If the materials you need are not available locally, they may be requested through our interlibrary loan service. Please allow at least two weeks advance notice for books; articles usually can be obtained more quickly. Questions about the interlibrary loan service should be directed to Angie Pope, at (724)480-3409.
