CCBC strives to provide students of all backgrounds and levels of ability with a quality education and the skills needed to enter the workforce. It is the mission of the Supportive Services Office to arrange for and provide services at no charge for students with physical challenges and learning disabilities.
A variety of services are provided for eligible special populations students, including educational support, note taking, tutoring, community resource referrals, and appropriate academic accommodations. Special services for students with disabilities must be requested by the student. Appropriate documentation from a licensed professional must be provided to verify the disability and to determine reasonable accommodations.
Services Offered: - Physical Accessibility - parking, elevators, escorts, and adaptive desks and chairs
- Adaptive Equipment - use of recorders, magnifiers, spell checkers, talking calculators, and adaptive software
- Special Testing Accommodations - sound proof booths, extended testing times, and alternate testing (Proper Documentation is Required)
- Educational Support - study skills, time management skills, and learning styles evaluations
- Life Skills Support - self-concept, image, conflict resolution, and community referrals
- TRI-C's Club - on-campus social organization geared towards students with special needs
Step-by-Step: How to Receive Supportive Services at CCBC *:
1. Make your disability known by identifying yourself and the nature of your disability to the Supportive Services Office as early as possible. Some accommodations (i.e. notetakers, interpreters, and text recording services require at least 3 weeks planning in advance of the semester.
2. Request the service or services needed.
3. Provide the appropriate documentation from a licensed professional. The College does not provide nor pay for diagnostic testing.
4. Once identification and eligibility have been determined, the Supportive Services Office will arrange for and provide you with the needed services.
* Eligibility for services will be determined by the Affirmative Action Officer, located in the Administration Building.
