STUDENT RECEIVES TWO CCBC FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Madeleine Wiley, a communication major from Ambridge, is the recent recipient of two CCBC Foundation Scholarships, the Robert D. Thompson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship and the Ambridge Wolves Club scholarship.
“I feel extremely lucky and grateful to have won these two scholarships,” said Madeleine. “The proud looks on my parents' faces when I received the letters saying I had won them was the best part for me by far.”
Established in 2011 by Southern Pines Trucking, the Robert D. Thompson Memorial Scholarship provides assistance to a full-time student who is or has a family member in the trucking industry, or is pursuing a degree around the care and preservation of animals and/or their natural habitat.
Madeleine’s grandfather and father both had careers in the trucking industry and currently own their own trucking business. Madeleine noted that her grandfather “always performed his own truck maintenance and built his own truck from scratch, from the frame to the motor and even the cab.” Madeleine’s father received his CDL license after serving in the US Army from 1987 to 1995. He currently serves as Chief Master Sergeant in the PA Air National Guard and is in charge of a two hundred vehicle fleet.
The Ambridge Wolves Club created their scholarship fund in 2012 to provide students in the Ambridge Area school district with funds to help make earning their degrees more affordable.
“These scholarships not only helped so much with paying for my tuition, but they gave me the opportunity to meet so many kind and helpful people already,” said Madeleine.
Madeleine starts her first semester at the College this August. She plans to complete her associate degree at CCBC then transfer to a 4-year college to obtain a bachelor’s degree in digital media production or multimedia.
“My biggest goals while at CCBC are to focus on my studies and to connect and learn from the people around me,” explained Madeleine.
After she completes her education, Madeleine hopes to have a career that lets her “create beautiful art and photos for people.”
