Emergency Medical Services Training

Since 1974, the Community College of Beaver County has offered Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training. Accredited by the PA Department of Health, the EMS Department offers a:

  • central location in Beaver County
  • fully equipped training lab
  • well-qualified, experienced instructional staff
  • dedicated learning facility

Emergency Medical Technician

Our Emergency Medical Technician course provides entry-level certification for those interested in obtaining employment in Emergency Medical Services. The EMT-Basic program follows the National Registry curriculum.

This 180-hour program concentrates on Basic Life Support interventions, including topics, but not limited to:

  • medical/legal/ethical responsibilities
  • basic cardiac life support for HCP
  • oxygen and adjuncts
  • patient assessment
  • lifting and moving
  • medical emergencies
  • ambulance operations
  • emergency obstetrics
  • rediatric emergencies
  • introduction to EMS/EMT responsibilities
  • basic cardiac life support for health care providers
  • patient assessment and immediate interventions
  • burn care
  • environmental emergencies
  • skills for the senior patient, children and infants
  • ambulance operations and special incident response
  • communications
  • scene safety and hazard control
  • Patient Assessment
  • basic trauma care
  • special operations
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course)
  • HAZ MAT awareness - 4 hour course
  • ICS 100-200-700 (Incident Command System)
  • National Standard Certified


Successful completion results in Pennsylvania Department of Health Certification and is the basis for reciprocity and eligibility for National Registry EMT-B testing.

  • September 9, 2014 to February 12, 2015
  • Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:00- p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The program is held in the Student Services Center in room 1005, located on the Center Township campus. 

The Emergency Medical Responder is designed for police, fire and rescue personnel responding to the scene of injury or illness, the EMR course teaches the skills needed for first responders to provide basic care until EMS arrival. Some topics include:

  •  EMS System
  • Scene Safety and Hazard Control
  • Patient Assessment
  • Basic Trauma Care
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Emergency Obstetrics

Additional EMS Training Programs

We offer additional PA Department of Health certification courses and other related EMS and PASFA programs.

These course include:

  • Basic Vehicle Rescue
  • Basic Rescue Practices
  • Special Vehicle Rescue (firefighters, police officers, industrial, public venues, schools, sports staff)
